Shiny

Upon the 10th Anniversary of one of my favorite shows of all time, i began to reflect on how much I hate TV production companies. They don't care at all about how good a TV show is, how original a show is or how much the viewers of said show, regardless of how small the number, emotionally invest in the characters and story.  All they give a shit about is the bottom dollar on what they can advertise during the crap shows the millions of drones in the 18-25 demographic are watching.  I foresee a future where all well-acted, well-written, scripted shows are abolished and we live in 100% reality TV world...please shoot me before this happens.

Now, i'm not going to go and list all my adored shows that were killed well before their time (::coughcough:: Arrested Development), but there are just so many shows that are not given a fair chance.  And i just find that so wrong......and unfair...and just plan shitty.  What the hell, TV fat-cats??  You're lucky we live in the wonderful world of TV to DVD now and are able to create all these wonderful cult followings, after it's too late to save the actual show...so we showed you and your twitchy cancellation trigger fingers...blegh  If only everything could be given a second chance like Family Guy....

So yeah....this post didn't really have a point....but i guess we've established that a). Firefly and Arrested Development were both awesome, b). Fox sucks ass for cancelling both shows to make way for more American Idol horseshit, and c.) ...i like to use the word "fatcat"

My two Cents on voting

I don't care what your political affiliation is, I don't care what your religious beliefs are, I don't care if your politics are on the complete other end of the spectrum from mine....all I care is that you show up at the polls and vote.

Vote for someone you agree with, vote against the person you don't agree with.  If you don't want to vote because you feel uninformed, then get yourself informed!  We live in the internet age...the ballot questions for every state are out there in the interwebs just waiting to be read.  There is no excuse for not voting...saying you "don't want to" vote is just stupid and makes you sound like an ignorant, uneducated person.

It's 10 minutes out of your day..are you telling me everyone can't spare 10 minutes to voice their opinion for the good of their country?  Are you so much better than the rest of us that you're above voting??  We all have opinions and we live in a country that allows us to express those opinions openly--stop taking it for granted.  As a woman, I know my right to vote was an even harder fight to achieve and I therefore refuse to take it for granted.

So get out there and vote, bitches!  No excuse not to....

And then there were none.....(more spoilers)

Now that I've caught up on my 4 1/2 episodes, I just have to say wow....a lot happened in those 4 1/2 episodes lol

The finale was very bittersweet..but on the whole, I liked it.  And i'm so glad i didn't have to wait for the finale after the end of the second-to-last episode.  Holy crap...I've been rooting for Andy and Nancy all along, but damn..didn't expect them to get together like that.  And the way she heart-wrenching-ly screamed his name after him as he ran away from her..ugh....broke my heart.  Damn it Nancy, why couldn't you have realized how you felt like 3 seasons ago??

Definitely felt the closure though....and happy to say, this is definitely a show i feel i could buy the DVD box set and watch again.

So long, Botwins....pretty much the first pay cable, original series family I ever watched.  You will be missed.

♪ And now the end is near.....♪

......technically, the end was last night, but I'm still about 4 1/2 episodes behind and planning to catch up today!

Fair warning--if you have not watched this show, SPOILER ALERT for potentially 7 seasons worth of spoilers!!

So, pretty much fell in love with this show about 4 years ago (didn't have access to Showtime when it started, but i was able to catch up on Netflix around 2008 or so).  Granted, the basic story line is completely stolen from the British movie Saving Grace, which came out in 2001 i believe, written and starring one of the loves of my life, Craig Ferguson.... (really great movie)

.....housewife becomes widowed, has no money, starts growing and selling pot to make ends meet.  Literally...identical basic plot lines....how they got away with not crediting the makers of this movie when they made Weeds is beyond me.  Jenji Kohan must know people in high places; but i digress.....

Though the basic plot was the same, Weeds definitely took the whole drug dealing in the suburbs to the next level.  Frolicking around Agrestic for three seasons, to the tune of "Little Boxes", we dealt some drugs, married a DEA agent, got said DEA agent killed, burned our house down, and fled the lovely suburbs on a segway as the neighborhood burned down in our wake.  The first three seasons i think are my favorite...

When they left Agrestic is when the story-line took a downward turn for me.  I mean,  there are drug dealers all over this country, but being a drug dealer in a small, suburban, "Anywhere, USA" is what gave the show appeal:  it wasn't the rough and tumble of downtown Baltimore like in The Wire.  Once you do away with your theme song, head to Mexico and discover a mysterious underground tunnel across the border is when you kind of lost me....

But, luckily not everything that's shitty stays shitty (though how the show survived after writing out a character like Celia Hodes is beyond me...she was hilarious).  Seasons 4, 5,6 and 7 flew by, honestly, without much recollection to me (i should probably re-watch this show at some point...don't remember most of it..i think Alannis Morrissette was in there somewhere??).  HOWEVER...the season 7 cliff hanger was pretty great:  crosshairs targeted on Nancy from a distance and then the screen goes black as a rifle goes off...what the fuccccccccck?!?!?!  Probably the best cliffhanger for this entire series.  The first episode of the final season, we finally find out who got shot and if they're alive (AND we finally had "Little Boxes" back as a theme song, thank Christ).  Surprise surprise, she's fine...albeit, a tad messy....and with a bullet in her grey matter...and several months of rehab ahead of her...but ya know..fine.

So as my beloved show comes to an end, i reflect on my disappointments....like why did Justin Kirk not win any awards for this show?  He's genius...I fell in love with him when i saw the Angels in America miniseries, which he also was phenomenal in.  Seriously...give this man every award on the planet

After 8 semi-good, semi-stupid seasons, i bid one of my favorite tv shows good-bye....and can only hope the finale is not as open-ended like Lost or as shitty as Ally McBeal..I've been disappointed so many times in the past.....so, so many....please don't suck.

Anthony & Cleopatra!!!!

well, blog....long time no see.  A year and a half later, I am a little older, i am a little wiser....I'm growing hair in weird places..I'm apparently channeling Wayne Campbell....

but anyway..... what else has been happening since January 2011...

Anchorman sequel is happening....awesome.  what more could i ask for, really?

wow...it's kinda sad that's the only thing I can think of worth mentioning in the past year and a half LOL.  Well, it's good to know that some things are important in life (i.e. more "yazz" flute), and some things aren't lol

Maybe I'll be compelled to post again when Anchorman 3 is announced......
